Huu Bar Bali

Located on Jl. Oberoi-Petitenget in Kuta’s outer periphery is Huu Bar Bali, an elegantly designed restaurant/bar cum lounge that has earned it’s reputation on it’s classy environment, innovative menu, and soulful musical selections. Hu’u aesthetics have carried over to its dinner and cocktail menu that features an extensive and elegantly crafted selection of pan-Asian cuisine with a twist concocted by Chef Abu Goh and served by an expanded, friendly Balinese staff. Start off with a light Caramelized Onion Tart or Salmon de Brick cooked in a perfect pastry crust and then proceed on to a main course of Braised Beef Tarjine or Pan Seared Chicken Chermoula. After wrapping up the meal with a portion of Warm Chocolate Cake, peruse the extensive drink menu that has made Hu’u famous amongst discerning cocktail connoisseurs.

Martini’s are the specialty of the house with choices that range from their most popular – the Lychee Martini, to the sweet – the Chocolate Martini, to the standard – the Hu’u Absolute Martini. And beyond the Cosmopolitan, staff mixologists are able to prepare over 70 specialty cocktails, including fresh fruit Daiquiris for the tame or the Zombie Hu’udini for the more adventurous. For the aesthete, Hu’u stocks over 40 established estate wines and champagnes from both obscure and new world vineyards.

Hu’u also stands apart musically as it represents soulful music, a true exception in an area rife with nightclubs that play only the roughest and toughest sound. As public relations, Rebecca Khoo describes it, “Hu’u promises phenomenal and inspired sets. Good music is the imperative of the day to our resident DJs, depending on the time and the mood, from noon through the night, and our transition from lounging to dining to clubbing.”

From high season to low season, music is truly where Hu’u makes its mark, whether acid jazz during the day or down tempo for dinner or organic house for the pre-club crowd, Hu’u keeps it deep and sexy. And they are not hesitant to explore the limits of soulful music within its limitless parameters. “Solid Gold” is one of their very successful monthly theme parties that puts the glitter back in glitterati. A night when beaded curtains drape above the doorways, couches are covered in sequined lame, the mirrored disco ball is sparked up, and the lit dance floor comes alive a la “Saturday Night Fever” as patrons groove to 70’s/80’s classics from Earth, Wind, and Fire to Blondie to ABBA dropped by resident soul controller, DJ Jonny. The soulful classics theme continues with another monthly theme party called, “A Night of 90’s,” that features uplifting tunes from the era of Jamiroquai and New York innovators, Masters at Work. Beyond theme parties, Hu’u has a fairly regular roster of international DJ talent, from Singapore to Switzerland, rolling through to provide sounds.
