Sitting in the central of Bali Province, Bangli Regency is the only regency that has no beaches. Its neighboring regencies are Buleleng in the North, Klungkung and Karangasem in the East, Gianyar and Klungkung in the South, and its neighbors in the West are Badung and Gianyar. Kintamani, which is recognized by world travelers for it Mount and Lake Batur, nestles in the nothern part of the island. In the meantime, in the southern part of the region lands of some 100 meters above sea level stretches, colored by beautiful rice field and other agricultural scenes.

Bangli regency covers a land of 520.81 square kilometers, has adminitratively 187 community groups (Banjars), 69 administrative villages and 4 district namely Bangli, Susut, Tembuku and Kintamani. Bangli has a tropical climate therefore then it recognizes two seasons, namely rainy season from October to April and dry season from April to October. Temperatures are varied between one place and the other depending on altitude, with temperature-average of 28 degree celcius. Rainfall is at the average of 1500mm3 to 3000 mm3.

More rain occurs at the western part of Bangli with humidity at the average of 79%. From December to February, the wind blow from the west to East while from June to August it blows from the East to Southeast. Most people live from agriculture with rice as the staple food. The other crops are among others coconuts, beans, cassavas, coffee, tropical fruits like oranges, mangoes, “salaks”, durians, bananas and many other. Nearly 95% of the population are Hindus who aim for peaceful and harmonius life based on Vedic teachings.

If you are strolling around in the town of Bangli, you will witness a three-storey-roof pagoda like old building equipped with the so-called “kulkul” (Balinese bell) made of woods of coconut trees aged around 100 years old. The building is called “Bale Kulkul”, the legacy of Bangli’s kings. In the third storey, two “kulkuls” are hung, called kulkul lanang (male) and kulkul wadon (female). The “kulkuls” are functioned to sign a war. They are also used during rituals in the royal family’s kingdom, which remain to date. The people of Bangli decide to purify the “kulkuls” (considering them sacred), sounding them only during big ritual ceremonies. The building remains preserved by local people.

Regency of Bangli is one of regencies in Province Bali which doesn’t have sea area, but that way Regency of Bangli save the number of potency namely human resources, among other things the beauty panorama of Mount and Lake Batur which located in Sub district Kintamani. The Regency of Bangli Region is about 520.81 km² in administratively divided into 4 sub district, 4 administrative villages and 65 villages, with resident amount as much 197,210 people. Overview

The town Bangli lies at the foot of Bangli Hill. The Kehen temple is found in the northeastern part of the town, its terraces facing south. Various relics are kept in this temple. One of them is a metal plaque with inscriptions, dating from 1204. The Sasana Budaya Bali art centre , is visible from the south side of the temple. The name Kehen is derived from the word “keren or kuren, which means family. The Segening statue is in the southern part of Bangli.

It is shape like a dome and there is a spring near by. The paddies and gardens provide a pleasant backdrop. At Cempaka village , approximately 2 kilometers from the center of the town , is Sakti bukit temple , with its three rectangular stupas. The temple is also called Lingga Cudhamani. Demulih hill , three kilometers away at the west of Bangli, has very attractive scenery. In the past, the king of Bali built a residence in this region . many part of the building are now damaged. Temples are also found in this area.

Mount Batur is a 1717 – meter-high volcano, suitable for mountaineering. Lake Batur lies in the shadow of the mountain’s peak. Batur is an active volcanoes and still emit smoke. The old lava has changed into black stone, lying scattered on its slopes. Plants now grow on the old lava path.

Mount Agung (3142 meters) had its last violent eruption in 1963. Mount Batukaru (2270 meters), and Mount Abang (2152 meters) are not far away. Lake Batur lies in between the mountains Batur and Abang . walk down the slope from Penelokan to enjoy the scenery at lake Batur . From the mooring at Kedisan village, on the lake’s shore, one can take a boat to Trunyan, a village where the dead are laid in the forest and left to decompose.

This is the heartland of then Bali age, the original people of Bali . The caste system is not known here. It is said that the corpse decompose without smelling, presumably because of the presence of fragrant Taru trees, in the forest. A four meters statues is presumably kept in a concealed place. It is the statue of Ratu Gede Pancering Jagat , the ruler of the centre of the world ,who is considered the protector of Trunyan village.

Several road are available to climb mount Batur .At Penelokan village there are also paths leading down to the lakeside at Kedisan village. Follow the lake’s shoreline towards the west, to soongan village at the northwest side of the lake. Small vehicle,such as minibuses can go as far as the Jati temple area on the east side at the lake. Generally , however , climbers like to start the trip from Penelokan village and cross the valley from there, while enjoying the scenery of mount Batur and the lake.

The hot water spring of Tirta Bungkah and the Toya Bungkah art centre are found on the north side of the lake. Kintamani 68 kilometers from Denpasar , is a popular mountain resort with a cool , refreshing climate and beautiful scenery. The lake lies below the village, but is often hidden by mist. Batur temple ,at Batur village is located on the road between Bali and Singaraja. It is an irrigation temple, and look very pretty against the backdrop of the lake.

The Pancering Jagat temple is Trunyan’s main shrine. It gets its name from a very large stone statue which is presumably stored inside, representing the village’s guardian god . Penulisan temple stands on Penulisan Hill (1.745 meters), 25 kilometers west of Kintamani . A groups of temple presumably dating from the ninth century is found on its slope. They are the Ratu Daha Tua Temple, Penarajon temple and another small temple .There are also some ancient statues from the 11 th century, such as that of Bethari Mandhul, the consort of King Anak Wungsu , and four faced or (Catur muka) statue. Penulisan temple is a temple of the Bali aga people. To reach it one must climb a steep flight of steps.

History :

As Lake Batur located in the Bangli Regency, was a major source of irrigation water for south & east Bali, the regency was greatly fought over by neighboring rulers. Bangli became the capital of this Balinese kingdom in the year Balinese Icaka year of 1204.
