Beratan Lake is located next to Mount Beratan and Mount Catur. It is the second largest lake in Bali. Filling the crater of the inactive volcano Mount Catur, Beratan Lake sits at over 1,200 meters above sea level. The important temple of Pura Ulundanu solemnly guards the lake. The resort area of Bedugul offers excellent views of the lake, as well as a number of water activities. Providing a cool retreat from the hot and humid regions of Bali, its shores provide the traveler with hotels and restaurants and its cool waters offer parasailing, water-skiing, banana-boat rides and other water sports. Some Japanese caves across the lake were dug during World War II. While in the area hike to the beautiful shrines that dot the lakeshore and forested hills around the lake or visit the beautiful Pura Ulundanu Beratan. Not far from here are Buyan Lake and Tamblingan Lake, two of the four large lakes on Bali, which can also be worth a visit. Beratan has an altitude of about 1.000 meters, the climate is quite comfortable, at nights we may even need some warm cloths.

It’s very picturesque, with a large banyan tree at the entrance, attractive gardens and one courtyard isolated on a tiny island in the lake.

Situated majestically in the hills 850 meters above sea level, Jatiluwih means ”really beautiful”. An appropriate name indeed with expansive views across terraced rice paddies, undulating hills and valleys. Arrive at lunchtime and enjoy a meal in the restaurant while soaking up the view, cool climate and fresh air. It is stretch from the foothill of the volcano of Batukaru to the south coast.
4. Pura Luhur Batukaru, on the slopes of the second highest mountain Batukaru was the state temple when Tabanan was an independent kingdom. The temple is one of the six axial temples sacred to all Hindu Balinese. The temple was renovated in 1991, and the grounds have been planted with the most modern civic landscaping, thus robbing it of much of its former mysterious quality.
